Serbia is officially divided into 29 districts, called “okrug,” plus the City of Belgrade, which is counted as a separate district-level unit. This makes a total of 30 district-level units in Serbia’s administrative structure.

Five of these districts—Kosovo, Kosovo-Mitrovica, Kosovo-Pomoravlje, Peć, and Prizren—are located in the territory of Kosovo. Serbia officially considers these as part of its own districts, but in practice, they are not under Serbian administration.

The remaining districts are spread across central Serbia and the northern province of Vojvodina. Each district includes several municipalities and cities. Districts are used mainly for state administration, while local government functions are carried out at the municipal level.
