Map Quiz – Spain: Capitals Of Autonomous Communities

Questions: Barcelona, Las Palmas, Logroño, Madrid, Mérida, Murcia, Oviedo, Palma, Pamplona, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Santander, Santiago de Compostela, Seville, Toledo, Valencia, Valladolid, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Zaragoza

Spain is divided into 17 autonomous communities, each with its own capital. These capitals are centers of administration, culture, and regional identity.

Some communities have capitals that are not the largest city. For example, Mérida is the capital of Extremadura, while Badajoz is larger. Similarly, Santiago de Compostela is the capital of Galicia, though Vigo has more inhabitants.

The Canary Islands are special, as they have two capitals: Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which share the status equally.

Valladolid is the de facto capital of Castile and León, since most regional institutions are based there, although no official capital is designated in the statute. Vitoria-Gasteiz is the de facto capital of the Basque Country, as it hosts the Basque Parliament and government institutions.
