The definition of Western Europe is not always clear and can vary depending on the context—geographic, cultural, or historical. For the purpose of this quiz, we generally follow the historical division of Europe during the Cold War, using the Iron Curtain as a guide. This means Western Europe includes the countries that were aligned with NATO or neutral, while Eastern Europe refers to those that were part of the Soviet-led Eastern Bloc. Although Greece was aligned with the West during the Cold War, we have included it in Eastern Europe for this quiz due to its location in the far southeast.
