Arabic is the most widely spoken language, used officially in countries like Algeria, Libya, and Egypt. Other languages include French (common in former colonies) and indigenous languages such as Berber in Morocco and Algeria.

The highest mountain in this region is Mount Emi Koussi (3,445 m) in Chad, located in the Sahara Desert. It is a dormant volcano and a prominent feature in the Tibesti mountain range.
