Map Quiz – Belgium: Province Capitals

Questions: Antwerp, Arlon, Bruges, Brussels, Ghent, Hasselt, Leuven, Liège, Mons, Namur, Wavre.

Belgium is a federal state composed of ten provinces, each with its own capital city serving as the administrative center. The provinces are divided between the Dutch-speaking region of Flanders in the north and the French-speaking region of Wallonia in the south, with Brussels functioning as a separate bilingual region.

In Flanders, the provincial capitals are Bruges (West Flanders), Ghent (East Flanders), Antwerp (Antwerp), Leuven (Flemish Brabant), and Hasselt (Limburg). These cities are known not only for their administrative importance but also for their historical and cultural significance. For example, Bruges is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Leuven is home to one of Europe's oldest universities.

In Wallonia, the capitals are Namur (Namur), Liège (Liège), Mons (Hainaut), Arlon (Luxembourg), and Wavre (Walloon Brabant). Namur also serves as the capital of the Walloon Region, and Liège is one of the largest cities in the country. Arlon, located near the border with Luxembourg, is notable for its proximity to the German-speaking community of Belgium.

Each provincial capital functions as the seat of the governor and the provincial council. While some are major urban centers, others are smaller cities with historical importance.
