Brussels is not only the capital of Belgium but also one of the capitals of the European Union. It sits at the crossroads of Europe, just a few hours by train from cities like Paris, Amsterdam, and London. The Brussels-Capital Region consists of 19 autonomous municipalities, each with its own local administration, mayor, and municipal council. These municipalities function similarly to districts in other cities but retain considerable autonomy for managing local affairs, such as urban planning, education, and public services.
