This quiz focuses on the provinces of the Philippines, which are the main administrative subdivisions of the country. Provinces are grouped into regions and play an important role in local governance, planning, and statistics.

For the purposes of this quiz, the total count is 83. This includes the 82 provinces of the Philippines, plus Metro Manila (the National Capital Region), which is treated as a separate unit even though it is not a province.

Several provinces are relatively new and were created through the division of older provinces, mainly to improve administration and representation. The most recent additions are Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur, both established in 2022 after the former province of Maguindanao was split following a plebiscite.

Other recent changes include Davao Occidental, which became a province in 2013 after separating from Davao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands, which regained its status as a province in 2019 after a period of legal uncertainty.

By including long-established provinces, newly created ones, and Metro Manila, this quiz reflects the current administrative structure of the Philippines as of 2026.
