Belgium is a small, multicultural country in Western Europe, known for its three regions: Flanders, Wallonia, and Brussels. The country is divided into ten provinces: five in Flanders (Antwerp, Limburg, East Flanders, West Flanders, and Flemish Brabant) and five in Wallonia (Hainaut, Liège, Luxembourg, Namur, and Walloon Brabant).
The Brussels Capital Region does not belong to any province, nor does it contain any.
The country is further divided into 43 arrondissements (administrative districts) and 581 municipalities (communes). The arrondissements are intermediate divisions used for administrative and judicial purposes, while the municipalities are the smallest units of local government, each with its own elected council and mayor.
