Peru is divided into 25 regions, known as departamentos, along with the constitutional province of Callao. These regions vary greatly in size, geography, and cultural significance. Loreto, located in the northeastern part of the country, is the largest region, covering approximately 28% of Peru's territory. This vast area forms part of the Amazon rainforest, celebrated for its rivers and incredible biodiversity. In contrast, Tumbes in the northwest is the smallest region. Despite its size, Tumbes is known for its warm beaches and unique mangrove ecosystems. It is also Peru's northernmost region, bordering Ecuador.
