See how well you know the Sunflower State with a Kansas map quiz!
Kansas is divided into 105 counties, making it the state with the sixth-highest number of counties in the U.S. The counties vary in size and population, with some, like Sedgwick County, home to Wichita, being densely populated, while others, like Greeley County, remain sparsely inhabited. Many of the counties were established in the 19th century, often named after prominent figures in American history, Native American tribes, or geographical features. Each county serves as a local administrative unit, providing essential services such as law enforcement, road maintenance, and public records management. The county seats, often small towns, act as governmental hubs where residents access various public services.
