.Комп'ютер (kompyuter) is the Ukrainian word for 'computer'. It's borrowed from the English word 'computer', which originally denoted a person who performed numerical calculations, often with the aid of a mechanical calculating device. The term evolved over time, particularly in the mid-20th century, to refer to electronic machines that can process data. The English term itself is derived from the Latin verb 'computare', meaning 'to sum up' or 'to reckon'.
Телефон (telefon) translates to 'telephone' in English. The word has its roots in the Greek words 'τῆλε' (têle), which means 'far', and 'φωνή' (phōnē), which means 'voice'. Combined, they effectively describe the device's function: transmitting voice over a distance. Many languages adopted variations of this term as telephony technology spread across the world in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
