Bosnia and Herzegovina is divided into three main confederal entities. These are the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republika Srpska, and the Brčko District.
The Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina covers the western and central parts of the country and is further divided into cantons. Republika Srpska stretches across the north and east and forms a single administrative unit.
Brčko District is a self-governing administrative area in the north of the country. It is formally shared by both entities but functions independently.
