The Republic of the Congo, also known as Congo-Brazzaville, is a Central African country stretching from the Atlantic Ocean into the interior of the continent. It borders Gabon, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Angola's Cabinda exclave.

The country is divided into departments, its main administrative divisions. These include Kouilou, Niari, Lékoumou, Bouenza, Pool, Plateaux, Cuvette, Cuvette-Ouest, Sangha, and Likouala, as well as the departments of Brazzaville and Pointe-Noire.

Brazzaville, the national capital, lies on the Congo River directly across from Kinshasa. Pointe-Noire is the country's principal port on the Atlantic coast, while the large northern departments include extensive areas of tropical forest.
