Senegal is located on the westernmost tip of mainland Africa. The country borders Mauritania, Mali, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, and The Gambia, which forms a narrow corridor into the interior of Senegal along the Gambia River.

Senegal is divided into 14 regions, which are the country's primary administrative divisions. Dakar, the capital region, is the smallest by area but the most populous and serves as the political, economic, and cultural center of the country.

The regions vary greatly in geography. Saint-Louis and Louga lie in the dry Sahel zone of northern Senegal, while Ziguinchor and Sédhiou in the south receive much more rainfall and contain forests and fertile farmland. Tambacounda and Kédougou cover large areas in the east and include some of Senegal's most sparsely populated territory.

This quiz helps you learn the names and locations of all 14 regions of Senegal.
