Florida is a peninsula in the southeastern United States, bordered by Georgia and Alabama to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and the Gulf of Mexico to the west. Its long coastline, warm climate, and generally low elevation give the state a distinctive physical geography.

Much of Florida's population is concentrated in urban areas such as Miami, Jacksonville, Tampa, and Orlando. Tallahassee is the state capital, while Pensacola is an important city in the western Florida Panhandle. Cape Canaveral on the Atlantic coast is closely associated with the American space program.

Water is a defining feature of Florida. Major rivers include the St. Johns, Suwannee, and Apalachicola, while Lake Okeechobee is the state's largest freshwater lake. Southern Florida contains the vast wetlands of the Everglades, and the Florida Keys form a chain of islands extending southwest from the peninsula.

This interactive map covers important cities, waterways, natural features, neighboring states, and coastal waters of Florida. Learning their locations provides a broad introduction to the geography of the Sunshine State.
