Multiple Choice: Choose the correct option from four choices by clicking or pressing keys 1–4.

Type Random: Type location names in any order; they’ll be highlighted on the map as you go.

Type: Type the name of the highlighted location.

Fly: Use arrow keys or WASD to steer, and press the spacebar for a speed boost.

Yemen is located on the southern part of the Arabian Peninsula and is divided into governorates, which are the country’s main administrative divisions. In addition to the governorates, the capital Sana'a has a separate administrative status as a municipality.

From 1967 to 1990, Yemen was divided into two separate countries. North Yemen, officially called the Yemen Arab Republic, and South Yemen, officially called the People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen, had different political systems and governments. South Yemen was the only Marxist state in the Arab world during the Cold War. The two countries were unified in 1990 to form the modern Republic of Yemen.

The geography of Yemen is highly varied. Western Yemen contains mountains and densely populated highlands, while the eastern parts of the country are dominated by desert areas connected to the Arabian Desert. Along the south lies the Gulf of Aden, and to the west the country borders the Red Sea.

One of Yemen’s most unusual regions is Socotra, an island group in the Indian Ocean known for its unique plants and animals. The island’s isolation has led to many species that exist nowhere else in the world.
